TO FEEL FULLY SUPPORTED IN YOUR YOGA PRACTICE OR CLASS,
WHETHER NEW TO YOGA OR A LONG-TIME PRACTITIONER, THE
FOLLOWING YOGA PROPS ARE RECOMMENDED:
•
Yoga Mat - different from an exercise mat, a yoga mat has a slightly sticky
surface with a thickness of not more than ¼’. Thicker mats will interfere with
balance and grounding, and may hinder practice
•
Yoga Blanket - usually made from 100% cotton, and are sometimes referred
to as Mexican yoga blankets; blankets are used for support beneath the hips
•
Yoga Blocks - a set of two 4” foam blocks is standard. Blocks are used to
support legs, and are also used as ‘arm lengtheners’
•
Webbed Strap with D-rings - 8’ straps are standard size, and should have
double d-rings at one end of the strap. 6’ straps, and straps with plastic clip-
style buckles are not recommended. 10’ straps are available for those with
longer legs.
•
Yoga Bolster - a bolster has many uses, and is nice to have, but usually not
necessary for most classes. Bolsters are primarily used for Yin and
restorative classes.
Class Etiquette Document - This downloadable document provides some tips
for everything from what to wear to class, to when to arrive, and what to refrain
from wearing or bringing to class.
